SkyDrill Power Systems is not just a company trying to get energy from a renewable source. The truth is, there are plenty of other companies doing that in many different places across the United States and the world. The key to understanding SkyDrill’s vision is to think to yourself, “Where are the places I have seen wind turbines, solar farms, or even coal-fired electric plants?”, if you have seen them at all. Many people have only seen them on the Internet or on television or in print advertisements. Next, walk around where you live, where you work, where you buy your groceries, or where you take your family to play. If you are used to seeing a wind turbine, a solar panel bigger than a small box, or a biomass generator in any of those places, you live somewhere different from where most other people do.

The truth is, not just renewable energy, but nearly all of the energy we use is created somewhere far away from where we actually use it. SkyDrill’s vision is to create a new paradigm that lives alongside the old one, by deploying alternative energy systems to create electricity where it is being consumed. Creating the energy where it will be used is one aspect of a relatively new idea, most commonly referred to as “Distributed Energy.” As electric energy consumption continues to rise, new and existing electrical generation facilities and the electrical grid we all depend on are burdened more and more each year. The acceptable margin of reserve electricity available to the grid becomes smaller each day. How do we solve this problem, and do it without further risking air quality and human health? SkyDrill sees that the distributed energy model of “create energy where you use it,” is one key part of the overall solution. Many of the largest Retail Electric Providers see the same thing. There is increased urgency to put new technologies in place that are well suited to easily integrate distributed energy solutions, and not by coincidence. Like most everyone else, we are very pleased to see large wind and solar farms being planned and constructed across the country. However, the infrastructure required to get that electricity to where it will be used is costly and sometimes years away from being suitably built out.
Having alternative energy systems generating clean, renewable electricity at or very near the places it is being used benefits you, the electric grid, and the overall energy situation. Driving or walking around your community, you will know that someone else shares in our vision every time you see a new renewable energy system being installed. Of course, SkyDrill is focused on delivering this through a wind driven system. But the true potential exists for multiple types of systems, using multiple technologies, existing side-by-side to augment our existing energy infrastructure. SkyDrill customers, will be able to project to everyone who passes by one of their facilities that they have made a commitment to solve energy consumption issues in a new and dramatically different way. Let’s face it. Facility owners and companies can buy “green” energy from a provider in any amount they need to use. But customers, potential customers, and the community do not get to see their electric bill. However, well-designed and aesthetically pleasing renewable energy systems clearly represent a visible commitment to a better community through the promise of distributed energy.
